Music at Central

Music at Central

  • Students at Central have music class for 70 minutes weekly.  This is divided into two 35 minute lessons that alternate with PE.

The curriculum is based on the Michigan Music Standards.  There are 30 skills at each grade level that are linked to 5 standard areas.  Creativity and analytical skills are emphasized at all grade levels.

I incorporate technology in lessons as often as possible.  Our music room at Central is set up to be a digital learning environment complete with 30 dedicated classroom iPads and wireless control through iPad remotes, making it possible to lead lessons in close contact to students instead of behind a piano or computer keyboard.  Traditional methods of music making (singing, hand instruments, recorders, etc) are often blended with MP3 files, iPads or other digital media.

Core subjects are frequently integrated in our music lessons.  Students begin learning at the kindergarten level that math, science, social studies and language arts are all integral parts of music.
